Foundation wall cracks come in all shapes and sizes. But how do you know if it’s a minor hairline crack or a major structural problem? Let our experts assess your situation and provide you with a solution to fit your needs.
How do I know if my problem is serious?
Common indicators of a serious foundation issue include:
- Uneven floors
- Visible gaps and separation between walls and the ceiling and/or floor
- Water intrusion and dampness
- A crack that is getting bigger
- Efflorescence is a white, flaky substance on the concrete that could indicate leakage.
What Causes Foundation Wall Cracks?
Most concrete foundations eventually crack at some point. Many cracks are only cosmetic, but a crack that leaks, gets bigger, or lets the wall move needs a closer look.
Bowing walls are often a sign of hydrostatic pressure, and are best addressed as soon as you notice any bowing. It is important to make sure there are no areas where water is pooling around the exterior of your home.

The BG Foundation Repair Solution
For most wall cracks, we will inject the void space of the crack with a solution of closed-cell polymer, low-viscosity resin, then seal the crack with polymer-and-fiber-blended hydraulic cement. The resin is a hydrophobic material, specifically designed for this application. It is water-activated, which means that even if the leak is active, we can get it to stop.
-
Assess the crack
We look at the crack and the wall, and tell you if it is a structural concern.
-
Inject the crack
Closed-cell polymer resin is pumped into the crack. It expands to fill the void space, all the way through the wall.
-
Seal the surface
The crack is capped with polymer-and-fiber-blended hydraulic cement for a finished, watertight surface.
-
Reinforce if needed
If the wall is bowing or the crack is structural, we can add structural carbon fiber strapping to prevent further movement.

AfterFrequently Asked Questions
Can I just fix the crack myself?
There are many products on the market that appeal to homeowners for DIY crack repair. These products are often gimmicky and do not address the root cause of the issue. It's best to seek advice from a qualified foundation professional. BG Foundation Repair offers free estimates, and will never recommend a service you do not need.
Can you fix a crack that is actively leaking?
The resin is a hydrophobic material, specifically designed for this application. It is water-activated, which means that even if the leak is active, we can get it to stop.
Will you have to dig or excavate outside my foundation?
For the types of services we offer, excavation is not necessary.
Do you provide structural assessments?
BG Foundation Repair does not have a structural engineer on staff; however, with many years of experience, we have the expertise to determine if the issue is structural in nature. We will always recommend a structural engineer when necessary to perform a full analysis.
Do you install sump pumps or French drains?
BG Foundation Repair does not install sump pumps or French drains; however, these systems are often expensive, and may not actually address the root cause of your issue.
Foundation Wall Crack Repair in Massachusetts
Massachusetts has one of the most favorable climates in the United States and residents experience all four seasons with warm summers and cold winters. Your home experiences all four seasons too, and the freeze-thaw cycles can compromize concrete over time. When water freezes, it expands by about 9%. So if water seeps into your concrete foundation and then freezes, the foundation can crack. Plus, the average age of a home in Massachusetts is 59 years old, so there is a chance that your home is sitting on a compromised concrete slab and you don't even realize it! We repair foundation wall cracks all across the state, usually in a single visit and without digging outside.
